Explore Our Advanced Pregnancy Scans for a Closer Look at Your Baby's Development!

A range of tests is available if you are pregnant. These tests can confirm your pregnancy and also monitor your baby’s development in the womb. No medical test is ever 100 per cent accurate, but most pregnancy tests are very reliable.

Regular check-ups with your doctor are an important part of pregnancy care, including information and advice about what tests you and your baby will need.

Pregnancy Test

Concerned about pregnancy? Visit your gynaecologist for a blood or urine test. Home pregnancy tests are also available at local stores, detecting the hormone hCG, a reliable indicator of pregnancy.

NIPT

NIPT, or 'cell-free DNA screening,' detects genetic conditions like Down syndrome from 10 weeks gestation, providing superior accuracy compared to traditional screenings, albeit at a higher cost.

Growth Ultrasound

Ultrasounds in the third trimester assess baby's position, size, amniotic fluid levels, placental blood flow, and overall health, providing painless and safe insights into development.

Screening blood test

Early in pregnancy, a screening blood test assesses immunity, diseases affecting the unborn child, and the mother's well-being, including blood type, Rh factor, and haemoglobin levels.

Morphology Ultrasound

The 18-20 week morphology ultrasound checks fetal development, including spine, limbs, brain, and internal organs. It also confirms placental details.

Nuchal Translucency

At 11-13 weeks, the NT test combines maternal age, fetal nuchal translucency ultrasound, and blood proteins to assess potential chromosome abnormalities, like Down syndrome.

Glucose Blood Test

The OGTT is a test in first/earliest visit to the gynaecologist. This is done to check for the presence of gestational diabetes in expected mothers.

I am 16 weeks pregnant. I am having pain in both sides of my lower abdomen. Is this normal?

Although there are many reasons for abdominal pain during pregnancy, the most common condition is round ligament pain. The round ligaments are connective tissue ligaments that run from the upper aspect of the uterus down to the groin. As pregnancy progresses these ligaments enlarge and become stretched, and can cause pain. The pain sensation that women often feel involves both sides of the lower abdomen and sometimes the back. The pain is sharp in nature and can be worse on the right side. Certain movements may exacerbate the pain. Round ligament pain has not been associated with any adverse outcomes of pregnancy. Treatments include heat on the affected area and rest. Medications often do not alleviate symptoms.

I am 18 and a half weeks pregnant. My OBGYN suggests an amniocentesis, but I do not wish to risk it.

Diagnosis of chromosomal anomalies by amniocentesis is more accurate than conventional ultrasound. Although there are no major studies on error of amniocentesis, it has been shown that errors in diagnosis occur only 0.1% to 0.6% of the time.
